NFL Football Week 12: Weekend Wrap Up and Monday Night Football Preview

November 26, 2007

As predicted, this week showcased some pretty competitive games and really close calls for some teams that were just a little too confident.

I have to start with the New England Patriots against the Philadelphia Eagles; even though it was the last game on Sunday it was a big surprise that it was that close of a contest.

When it was announced that Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb wasn’t going to play and backup AJ Feely was going to be the starter, I was getting ready to see an absolute massacre, similar to what the Patriots did to the Washington Redskins a few weeks ago and the Buffalo Bills last week, but that was as far from the truth as can be! The Patriots did score on an interception by Ansante Samuel (best corner in football right now) on the Eagles first possession, but after that, the teams might as well have been mirror images of each other, if you can believe that!

AJ Feely was playing like a man possessed or playing like Tom Brady does every week, just completion after completion, charging down the field on every drive and finishing the game passing for 345 yards and 3 touchdowns (Can you say quarterback controversy?). Tom Brady on the other hand was getting an unusual amount of pressure and was sacked 3 times, but he did manage not to throw any picks all game.

In the end it was the Patriots defense that won the game because even though Feely was having the game of his life, he was still throwing picks, 3 in fact, but 3 was too much as the secondary came through in the clutch and saved what is turning out to be a perfect season for the New England Patriots.

Oh, there were some other games that went down to the wire as well like the Denver Broncos at the Chicago Bears. It is pretty obvious that the Bears are pretty much out of playoff contention and the Broncos are in the thick of things in the worst division in football, but both were not going down easy as this game went into overtime. The Bears and superstar Devin Hester (who had two amazing touchdown runs) turned out to be a bit too much though and took down the Broncos 37-34 with a game winning field goal by Robbie Gould.

As for the other close games in the NFL on Sunday:

Oakland Raiders at Kansas City:
-The Raiders proved that there is a fighting spirit left in them as they beat there hated division rivals 20-17

San Francisco vs Arizona Cardinals:
-The 49ers have been God awful this season, but they pulled out a close by forcing a fumble on Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner in his own end zone to end the game with a touchdown and a victory 37-31 in overtime

Washington Redskins at Tampa Bay Bucs:
-Joe Gibbs Redskins put up a hell of a fight in what turned out to be a field goal battle, but Tampa Bay and the defense turned out to be too much for Washington quarterback Jason Campbell to handle as the Bucs went on to win at home 19-13

Monday Night Football:
Another worthless game on Monday night as the Miami Dolphins will most certainly still be winless going up against a very good Pittsburgh Steelers team. Can we please just get a decent match up on Monday night? Please? The only hope for this game will be if running back/ pothead Ricky Williams will be on the field and actually getting 20-30 carries, if not, another huge blowout and complete waste of time.
