NFL Football Playoffs: Two Big NFL Playoffs Upsets

January 14, 2008

Coming into Sunday’s two NFL playoff match ups with Indianapolis Colts against the San Diego Chargers and the Dallas Cowboys taking on the New York Giants, both the Colts and Cowboys were favored by at least a touchdown to win, but that was not even close to what happen in Indianapolis and Dallas when all was said and done.

The Giants came into Dallas on Sunday red hot, winning their last 8 contests, the Cowboys on the other hand have looked terrible as of late with losing efforts every since they beat the Green Bay Packers earlier in the season.

The game was close for the majority of the contest, but New York looked to have the upper hand by applying a lot (I mean A LOT) of pressure on Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo all game long. With Romo having pressure on him the entire game, it turned out to be the deciding factor in the game. On the final drive for Dallas with only about a minute and a half remaining down 21-17 to the Giants, Romo drove down the field, but threw the game ending interception in the endzone sending the New York Giants to Lambeau Field to face Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers next weekend.

The other upset on Sunday came at the expense of Eli Manning’s brother, Peyton Manning in Indianapolis. The Chargers came into Indy bruised and battered with Antonio Gates not even close to a 100%, LaDainian Tomlinson and Philip Rivers going down in the game leaving backup quarterback Billy Volek and LT’s backup Michael Turner to do the unthinkable and beat the Colts at home.
